Portree Harbour, Portree
When you visit the Isle of Skye, you are going to need somewhere to stay. My favourite place to stay is Portree, its such a beautiful place and is pretty close to all the iconic locations, so it is the perfect place to have your base. Portree, situated on the east coast of the island, is the main village on the island.
A perfect place to catch the sunrise over the harbour is just along the road from the CO-OP store on Bosville Terrace (IV51 9DF), this is a wonderful viewpoint of the harbour and the lovely coloured houses and shops (see image below).
Further along Bosville Terrace (IV51 9DF), is the perfect place to catch the sunrise over the bay. And down near the slip at the harbour is another of my favourite locations in Portree. (see images below)
Neist Point
This was my favourite location from my trip to the Isle of Skye, I loved the way the land has been carved out by the glaciers and also how blue the water looks. One of Scotland's most famous lighthouses, it is situated on the western tip of the island not far from Glendale (Durinish). One of the main iconic viewpoints is up to the right hand side of the car park. (See Image Below)
And if you look the to the left from here you will be greeted with this stunning landscape. Apparently whales, dolphins, porpoises and baskin sharks are a common sight here. The rocks here are made of basalt, the same type of rock at the giants causeway in Ireland.
The Quiraing
According to Wiki, The Quiraing was formed by a great series of landslips. I have only been to this location twice and still haven't managed to capture all the iconic shots. There is just so many stunning shots to get here. I was also lucky enough to film a wedding here. Ill update more to this blog as i capture more shots.
The name Quiraing comes from Old Norse Kví Rand, which means 'Round Fold'. Within the fold is The Table, an elevated plateau hidden amongst the pillars. It is said that the fold was used to conceal cattle from Viking raiders.
The Needle (Quiraing)
Although this location is at the Quiraing it deserves a mention of its own. To get to this place you have about a 2mile trek along the Quiraing walk which is a lovely walk along a ridgeline, with one little tricky part past a small trickling waterfall, and then a bit of a climb up a steep hill, which at times felt like it was near vertical.
